Taiwan Taoyuan Airport (TPE)

TPE is the international gateway to Taiwan and most international carriers fly on Taiwan Taoyuan Airport. You can go to Hualien by the following ways. (1) Take the shuttle bus to Taipei Railway Main Station then take train to Hualian or (2) Take the shuttle bus to Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), which takes about 50 min and connect on the local flight (35 min) to Hualien Airport (HUN) .

Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)- Hualien Airport (HUN)

TSA has direct flight from Tokyo, Seoul and from other major cities in China. TSA daily has multiple flights to Hualien Airport (HUN), which take about 35min. The one-way ticket is about USD30 to USD40. For more details please check :

By Train

It takes approx. 2.5-3 hrs hours to take the train from Taipei Railway Main Station to Hualian Station by the fast express at the cost around USD 10 to USD 15. For more details please check the Taiwan railway timetable :

By Road

Although it is a long way to go, it is worthy for you to see the beautiful scenes along the Su Hua Highway (route 9) in the car. You'll take about 5 hours driving from Taipei to Hualien. Be careful to pass the car in front of you only at the safe location.

From Taipei:

Taipei→(1)Taipei-Ilan Freeway: through Hsuehshan Tunnel to Suao(2)North Coastal Highway to Suao(3)Taipei-Ilan Highway to Suao→The Suhua Highway(Provincial Highway 9)→Hualien

From Kaohsiung:
